Aurea Experience ‘18 is being held in the wonderful city of Munich on the 12th and 13th of November. Although we have a pretty exciting and packed agenda, we would strongly recommend you do some sight-seeing while you are there. Here is a list of our four ‘Must See’ things in Munich.
The Marienplatz which translates as the Marien Square, is a spectacular area right in the heart of Munich, spanning 100m along the side of the square in the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) which you have to see. The tower of the New Town Hall houses the Glockenspiel, a beautiful chiming clock that is over 100 years old. The Glockenspiel rings twice a day and is accompanied by 32 life-sized figures that re-enact historical Bavarian events complete with golden bird that chirps three times to mark the end of each show.
2. The Olympic Stadium
This stadium hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics and its design was revolutionary and futuristic for its time. The sweeping and transparent canopies of acrylic glass were modelled on the Alps and are the signature characteristic of the Olympic Stadium. If you have time, you can go on a guided tour of the stadium and discover its rich history including hosting the FIFA World Cup in 1974.
The German Museum is one of the oldest and largest science and technology museums in the world and is located on an island in the river Isar that runs through Munich's city center. It has an impressive collection of historic artifacts including the first electric dynamo, the first automobile, and the laboratory bench where the atom was first split. Other highlights of the museum include exhibitions on astronomy, transportation, mining, printing, and photography. If you are looking for something a little more modern, maybe a trip to the BMW museum could be of interest; this is also in Munich.
4. Munich Bier Halls
A trip to Munich would not be complete without visiting one of the many Bier Halls of the city. Most of them brew their own beer and your drink will taste even better with a platter of local specialties and some oompah music. You probably have heard about Hofbrauhaus, one of the most famous beer halls in Germany (the world?), but, we are sure you won’t be disappointed by any of the halls across the city.
