Earlier this year we added tiles #10 (Activity) and #11 (Video) to the Tile Pack with no price change. The big question from our clients is when will we add more new products! 

 

We are very excited to announce we are gearing up to launch a new tile - and we want your input on what it should be! Based on feedback we've received from our customers as well as the results from our last poll, we have narrowed down the options to three potential new tiles, and would like our customers and the AureaWorks community to help vote on what that tile should be.

 

12th Tile Options:

  • RSS Tile
    Our RSS Tile will allow you to pull in public RSS feeds from external websites and social media.
  • People Tile
    Our People Tile allows you to easily display employees/members in an attractive list showing their avatar, name, title, department and location. The tile is configurable to show new members (or new hires) who have joined in the past 30-90 days as well as a minimum and maximum number to display.
  • Event Tile
    The Event Tile drives greater participation by providing configurable details about the event (e.g., what and when). This tile uses available imagery and will dynamically pull events from selected places or allow a moderator to manually curate a list of events.

 

Our goal is to add product #12 to our Tile Pack without having to raise the cost of the Tile Pack for our customers. In order to do so, we are implementing this "12 for 12" campaign, where we will add product #12 to the Tile Pack once we have reached 12 new tile pack customers. We wanted to be transparent around this process as we have in the past, and will be providing updates and a countdown in AureaWorks so the community will be aware of when we reach our goal. Once we have finalized development and launched the tile, we plan on making it available to purchase a la carte via our store or by SOW.

 

You can track our 12 for 12 progress in the Social Edge space in AureaWorks. We will count down the new clients and let you know who purchased, by company name or industry (depending on the permission we receive).

Everyone has heard the old proverb "you can't have your cake and eat it too." Once you've had your cake, it's gone and you're on the hook to buy or make another. However, in the world of product pricing, we've found a way to provide our customers with more tiles (cake) while keeping the cost down (so you don't have to spend more for another).

 

Backstory

Several years ago, we started building Jive widgets (now tiles) for our Jive customers. A custom tile could be reasonably priced between $15-25K depending on the depth and complexity of its functionality. As we built more of these add-on products, we decided to offer them as a package. When we launched this package, for the price of just one product ($25K) you could receive all 7 of our most popular tiles at that time. We would charge that price annually providing upgrade safe support and innovation. The concept was right, but the cost and value ratio was not.

 

Tiles for all

We are fortunate to have worked with over 500 diverse clients, many of whom are in the small to medium-size market. In order for clients of all sizes to gain the benefits from our products, we made two pricing changes about two years ago. We dropped our a la carte pricing down to the $3-5K a year range per tile and also reduced our package price down to $10K/year. Today, over 100 Jive customers own one or more of our tiles.

 

Today, you can receive 11 of our tiles for that $10k/yr with the upgrade safe support and innovation included.

 

We want more products!

A few months ago, we inventoried all of our custom Jive project work and found over a dozen tiles, integrations, and other products. We will share those on our website and AureaWorks with a la carte pricing soon.

 

Product positioning dilemma

Why would we present all of these new products but not add them to the Tile Pack? The issue is that to support adding new products to the package, we would have to increase the cost or have more new clients purchase the tile package. We do not want to increase the price!

 

So we're offering all of the new products with a la carte pricing. Additionally, we will add one of them to the tile package — product number 12.  You can help choose what that will be by voting in this poll. However, we won't add it until we receive 12 additional tile package customers. Learn more about our "12 for 12" program here.

 

By doing this, we will have the client base to support 12 products in the package but do not need to increase the cost of the package. It will still cost the same $10K/year. If this works well, we could look to add additional products using the same approach. We expect our clients will respond favorably to receiving additional products at no additional cost.

 

How to get the new product faster

Just like in our consumer lives, prospective clients look to peers to help them assess buying opportunities. We believe that if clients signal to their peer group the value they are receiving from our tile package, this will accelerate the purchasing cycles and thus get everyone the 12th tile faster.

  • Post and rate your personal experience of our products in AureaWorks and tag Social Edge Consulting
  • Tweet about your experience with our products on social media. Tag us @social_edge and use the hashtags #myTBSEstory and #TBSE12for12
  • Add a review and rate our Tile Pack or any of our tiles in our online store
  • Privately let a peer know about the value you received from our tiles

 

We think this will result in a win for everyone involved. It will allow your costs to remain stable while still increasing the value of new products and innovations. Maybe not as tasty as cake, but it will be the next best thing.

On Wednesday, June 19th Social Edge hosted our first Customer Panel on how to build better use cases in your online community. We were lucky to have panelists Dina Vekaria-Patel and Dori Gray, Community Managers at Pearson and Medidata respectively, present their community management tips and tricks and use case best practices. Attendees were also able to see live demos of both Dina and Dori's communities, Pearson's Neo and Medidata Express.

 

 

Attendance was great and our attendees were engaged throughout the session. At the end of the presentations we had time for an open floor discussion and Dina and Dori were able to answer questions that were coming in throughout the session from attendees. We even ended up extending the panel another fifteen minutes to make sure everyone had a chance to ask their questions and have them answered!

Dina Vekaria presenting Pearson Neo

  • Dina presented a content calendar she uses to plan out content in advance to ensure that information and news in the community is fresh and up to date.

 

  • Dina also talked about repurposing content - one example she shared was how she took Pearson's PDF newsletter and transformed it into a Jive document in the community so it's easy for employees to find and access it internally.

  • During Dina's live demo of Neo, she shared a variety of different examples that show how she's continuing to innovate in her internal community, including Welcome to Pearson, the Pearson Innovation Hub, and the Pearson Global Advocates Hub.

 

Dori Gray presenting Medidata Express

  • Dori shared her tips on consistency in the community. At Medidata, all of the App Support spaces have the seem look and feel so it's easy for employees to go from place to place and know exactly where they can find what they need without having to dig around for it.

 

  • Dori also presented Medidata's Event Hub - a one-stop shop that houses all of the official corporate events happening at Medidata, making it easy for employees to be able to go there and see what's happening that week, month, etc.

 

  • Another initiative for Dori at Medidata was to end all of those never-ending "reply all" emails. Working with her community intern, they were able to implement departmental collaboration groups for employees to use instead of continuing to communicate via email.

Updates & Enhancements:

  • Filter Results by Tag -  Administrators can restrict blog display results by tag in the configuration panel.
  • Select a Default Filter  - This update has removed the "All" button on the filter display.  Administrators can determine the order in which the filters display by how they are listed and select a specific filter to be the "default."
  • Improved User Interface for Filters -  End users can choose to "Filter by" and "Clear filters" when interacting with the tile.
  • Google Analytics Tracking - Administrators can add Google Analytics tracking to get advanced insight into interaction with the tile. The new analytics configuration supports either Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager.
  • Performance Improvements - The performance of the blog retrieval has been improved in this version.

 

  • Bug Fix:  Filter by tags is not working properly
  • Bug Fix:  Filters do not show results properly

We are thrilled to announce that our Activity and Video Tiles are finally available to Jive and Lithium JX customers! As you may know, back in August we asked the AureaWorks community what new tiles they would like to see us add to our collection of Tiles by Social Edge. We received really great suggestions and feedback from the community. We took the most requested tile ideas and had our clients and the AureaWorks community vote on the tile they wanted most.

When we got the results back, we saw there were two clear winners: Activity and Video. Instead of just building one of the tiles, we decided to build both as a thank you to everyone who participated. After months in development and testing, both tiles are finally here and we are so excited to finally be able to show them off!

Here's some more information about each of the new tiles:

 

Activity Tile

Activity feeds are the bedrock of Jive communities. Our new customizable Activity Tile dynamically pulls activity streams onto a home page or any space, group or project page.

Key features:

  • Display activity streams for the entire community, a specific place or places, or a person.
  • Display and organize multiple activity streams on a page by using custom tabs.
  • Unlike Jive's out-of-the-box Super List, you can interact within the tile (comment, like, share) instead of having to click on a content item and navigate to the new page in order to respond.
  • Additional configuration options allow you to decide what types of content to display, enabling you to create an Activity Tile that displays all recent content or specific types of content, such as discussions or documents.

Video Tile

Our customizable Video Tile allows you to display videos in a gallery format. You can choose from two layout options to either display an individual video or curate a set of videos from a specific place in Jive or an external source. You can even override a default video thumbnail image with an image of your choosing for a curated individual video.Key features:

  • Feature a gallery of videos on any page with a featured video, or feature just one video.
  • Curate individual videos and override the default video thumbnail image with another image.
  • Pick a place and automatically allow videos to appear in the tile based on most recently uploaded. Videos can also be from external sources, including YouTube and Vimeo.

We are very excited to announce that both the Activity and Video Tiles will be available on Thursday, March 14th. We developed these tiles based on the suggestions and feedback we received from the AureaWorks community (see The results are in! The 10th Tile by Social Edge will be... for more information). Both tiles will be added to the Community Manager Tile Pack, and will also be available to purchase individually.

We want to thank the AureaWorks community for all of your 10th Tile suggestions! We really appreciate and value all of the great feedback we've received. We have taken into account all of the suggestions posted in this thread, as well as direct feedback from customers in order to develop this list of potential new tiles.

Here are the frontrunners for our 10th tile:

  • Activity Tile: Use this tile to place a true activity stream on any tile-compatible page in Jive. Configure it to show specific content types from Places based on unique tags and other parameters. As edits or replies are added, the feed automatically updates.
  • Content Tile: Curate Jive content (e.g., Blogs, Documents, Uploaded Files) in this tile with one or more visually appealing themes (e.g., a grid or stacked layout). Provides images and configurable details about the piece of content to signal its value.
  • Event Tile: The Event Tile drives greater participation by providing configurable details about the event (e.g., what and when). Uses available imagery. It dynamically pulls Events from selected Places or allows a moderator to curate a list of Events.
  • People Tile: People are arguably the most important aspect of Jive. This tile will highlight people in the community with configurable details such as name, title, location, and team. It also encourages people to connect by providing a “Follow” button right on the tile.
  • Video Tile: Present a video in this tile with play/pause controls. It also provides an “up next” playlist with thumbnails and the ability to manually curate that playlist. Also, override the default thumbnail with a custom image. Can be used in any place including the home page for both internal or external stored video content.
