I signed up for a free course on Gamification on Coursera. The course starts April 1, 2013 and in the meantime I have been reading the professor's book, For the Win. I am halfway through, and so far I am very impressed. I wish I had read it before I launched Bunchball in our Jive community.

I recommend the book and course to anyone interested in doing gamification right. There is much more to successfully deploying Bunchball than just turning it on.

The other Coursera offering I suggest considering right now is A Beginner's Course to Irrational Behavior, taught by Dan Ariely. That course starts on March 25, 2013. I found Ariely's book, Predictably Irrational to be incredibly eye-opening when I first read it years ago. And if you sign up for the free course, there is a discount this week on an electronic bundle of three of Ariely's books on Amazon: The Irrational Bundle: Predictably Irrational, The Upside of Irrationality, and The Honest Truth About Dishonesty (eBook Bundle) for $19.95.

Predictably Irrational explains why people are not as simple to understand, or to motivate, as is commonly thought. These are important concepts for those of us trying to design gamification and reward / recognition systems.

If you sign up for either of these courses, please comment here and we can set up a study group together!
