* Documentation and walkthroughs are within Jive Gamification, Engagement, and Rewards

When?

  • Date: October 28, 2016 at 9 pm PST
  • The downtime window is up to 8 hours.  This entire window may not be used, but is reserved.

Why the upgrade?

  • The Admin Console for the Advanced Gamification Module (AGM), which is powered by Bunchball's Nitro platform, is getting an upgrade to the latest version - Nitro Studio.
  • Improvements:
    • New administration user experience: The administration interface has been reworked and updated to a more modern look and feel.  It is also mobile-ready for access from smaller devices and touch screens.  In general, it will help make overall program administration easier, especially around areas such as missions.  From a technology perspective, the Flash interface has been replaced with HTML 5.
    • Advanced missions definition: All the Missions capability you had before plus new "and/or" logic constructs, time-sequenced rulesets, and in an intuitive drag-and-drop wizard interface, so you can create more advanced and progressive goals for your end users.
    • Data import: Import external user activity with a simple upload tool.  This allows you to reward and incentivize for events that happen outside of Jive.
    • Improved analytics (beta): A beta version of the new Nitro Studio Analytics will be available to select customers, with subsequent rollouts in customer waves.  The new analytics provides easier access for getting critical data insights into your community programs.  The reporting capabilities include both visual graphs for on demand insights, as well as a data export tool for taking data offline for analysis as well as mashups with other important business metrics.

Who will be impacted?

  • All customers that are currently running the the Advanced Gamification Module (powered by Bunchball).
  • This includes: On-Prem, Hosted, Cloud.
  • The upgrade will require no effort from customers.
  • The upgrade will only have visible changes for  administration users.  There are no end user visible changes.

What happens during the upgrade?

  • Customer sites should continue to function normally, but without AGM functionality.
  • Customers will not be able to access their Bunchball Admin Console.
  • User activity will be 'queued' and processed when the upgrade is done.  Note: After the update there may be some delay for processing to catch up.
  • Upon completion of the upgrade, customers will be taken into Bunchball's new Nitro Studio administration tool as opposed to Admin Console.  They will see all previous configuration and administration, just displayed in the new user interface - Nitro Studio.

I want to know more!

Updated Configuration and Management Experience

Since the start of 2016 Bunchball and Jive have been working together to get the latest Nitro gamification console ready for our customers.  Since we have gotten to a stage where the plan for launch and the product itself has been tested quite well I wanted to give an update so that all our customers know where we are and what is coming next.

Current Nitro Console:

When is the new experience coming?

The updated console will require both Jive and Bunchball to be ready to monitor, support and of course - train and inform all our internal teams and every one of our customers.  That set of work requires the same exact teams that are currently engaged in getting the latest Jive cloud release (2016.2) and Jive 9 release out to customers. Since the 2016.2 upgrades are happening right now, so the team has decided to wait for a slower moment before introducing more change to customers.

This likely slow period is looking to be after the 2016.2 cloud release for customers (August/September) unless we can find a few weeks that will be slower during the 2016.2 Jive cloud launch.

What is next?

As we pin down an official go live time there will be a ton of new information released to the community:

  • A full breakdown of the length of downtime required for the update, the dates of the downtime and how to file support issues if any come up.
  • Details on new features that come with the new console.
  • Video walkthrough guides for the new user experience.
  • Updated Jive Documentation for the new user experience.
  • Bugs that are known to be resolved by the new console.

Yes, this post is a bit more of a teaser, but I wanted to be sure that everyone knows that the update is close, but now just needs the right timing!

In an effort to better make everyone aware of updates to the Gamification Module I am going to try to do at least a minor blog post for each release.  This release is actually more substantial then others because it has quite a bit of improved functionality, so I will go into more detail then most.

So lets get things kicked off, feel free to ask questions in the comments.

What is New and Improved?

The reputation tab in the profile is back

In the last release, the 'reputation center' was created to help organize all the gamification elements of the JGM (Jive Gamification Module) into one area - but this had an impact - Guests to communities were no longer able to easily see what kinds of activities were taking place across the community, or see leaderboards, or check out what 'missions' were available.

So we kept the reputation center to keep the JGM elements in one area, but re-added it to the profile to better enable guests.  Win / Win

Activity History.

How did that person get those points?  The answer is now clear, when a user is rewarded, you can see it in their profile. No more confusion around how I earned my points!  This used to be a dropdown on the 'points' display, but now has it's own dedicated area, with links back to the content and information on the completed mission.

How about a screengrab of both the reputation tab, and the activity history:

Places

The places tab in the reputation center used to show you a breakdown of points from every place you followed / were a member of.  The problem with this strategy is that some places don't require you to join / follow in order to participate! This issue has been resolved, now any place you participate in and earn points will display in the places tab.

Ranking

The ranking page includes the return of the 'all users' leaderboard as well as a simple UX change to display leaderboards 1 at a time vs all at once to better scale to site width.

Widget Improvements:

The Individual Leaders widget got a few new options. Most notable is the ability to display 'rolling' leaderboards - that means only showing leaders based on what they have done in the last Year instead of 'all time.'

*Jive Cloud is still 'coming soon'

How do I get it?

If you are a current customer who has purchased the gamification module - ask the support team to update your instance, or download from your account.

If you are interested in knowing more about the module, contact our sales team - sales@jivesoftware.com to set up a walkthrough of potential to incent behavior and grow adoption in your Jive Employee or Jive Customer Community.

The Jive Gamification module has reached a major milestone, The Jive Gamification Module 'Level 3'.  There is a lot of great changes in this updated version, here is a quick breakdown.  Note that all the administration documentation in the Jive Community will be updated to reflect the new functionality over the next few days.

* Available NOW (Jive 5.x and Jive 6.x) - customers just need to ask Support to update their gamification module

* Not available on 4.5 - please upgrade!

* Jive Cloud 'Coming Soon'

Dedicated reputation center

  • In the old version of the Gamification Module you had some tabs scattered throughout the user's profile, which caused profile-tab-overload and made adding new gamification functionality more difficult.
  • With the new dedicated reputation center, users have one place to go to where they can see leaderboards, rankings, missions, levels and point history.

UI / UX improvements

  • Me in 3 personalization - users can select what 3 badges from their collection display in their Jive hover card for the world to see.
  • The new layout matches the same Jive content, people and places browse menu for ease of use.
  • Point History - easier for a user to see what they did in the system that rewarded them the points and badges.
  • Navigation - more places in Jive lead into the reputation center or provide queues on how a user can get more information.

More Actions tracked

  • 90+ wasn't enough?  How about over 130 different 'root' Jive actions being tracked within Jive.  Viewing content, creating, sharing, bookmarking, liking, commenting, uploading, etc etc (now including creation of Ideas, voting on ideas, create events, deletions).
  • Now take 130+ and multiply it by all the content in your system and all the groups, projects and communities - all can be tied to rewards.  That's over 9000 (maybe).

Space / Group / Content level missions

  • Previously you could track community level activity.
    • Create a document
    • View a blog
    • Answer 10 questions in the Marketing Group
  • Now you can track within places or specific content.
    • Create a document in the Sales Space
    • View the CEO's Blog
    • Answer 10 Questions in the Marketing Group
Screen Shot 2012-12-18 at 9.42.38 AM.png

Space Levels / Leaderboards

  • Previously a user could answer 100 questions in the 'Finance' Space and not get recognized for being a Financial pro - but that has changed.  Space / Group / Project specific leaderboards will highlight users that have the most points and badges in specific places in Jive.  Give a special badge to the first user to answer 100 questions in the Finance space!
  • Additionally, users can see all the badges and points they have in any place through the reputation center
Screen Shot 2012-12-19 at 2.12.41 PM.png

What Else?

  • New ability to add users to a 'black list' and not have them earn points / badges (useful for admin accounts or automated accounts)
  • Better handling of errors when communicating to the Nitro server.  If a request fails, it will try again.
  • If you prefer to not use the JiveID to identify users, you can leverage an extended property on users for identification
