Read Tracking is a feature in Jive that allows for the system to track whether or not a user has read or viewed a thread since its last update or reply.
After this feature is enabled, when viewing discussions in the Content tab users will see that unread discussion threads, or threads with new replies, will appear in bold. You will need to filter the content list by "Discussions" in order to see the read tracking status.
This example, we can see that the "New Discussion!" thread has a new reply that the user hasn't ready, so it is displayed in bold. It will remain in bold until the user views that thread.
The user must view the actual tread page in the web UI in order for the thread to be considered 'read' and no longer show up in bold. Viewing a thread from the inbox will not mark the trigger the 'read tracking' functionality.
How to Enable Read Tracking
The feature can be enabled by going into Admin Console: System > Settings > Discussions
The feature is disabled by default - Turning this on can tax system performance on some configurations due to the system needing to track the view status for all threads for all users.
