Using SAML Tracer to troubleshoot SSO Issues

Version 2

SAML Tracer is an essential tool for SAML debugging and is used in the industry by SAML developers. This is a useful tool for analyzing Authentication Requests and Responses during the SAML login process. It captures the traffic of SAML as it hits the Jive site (i.e. the Service Provider or SP) and then redirected to the Identity Provider (i.e. IdP) for authentication credentials, to be redirected back to Jive SP.

If you are running into an issue with SAML SSO and logging into Jive, then a Support engineer may ask you to install the following tool in order to provide a log file that will assist in the troubleshooting process.

Mozilla Firefox (this is the only browser which works with these plugins at the moment)

    1. Navigate here: SAML tracer :: Add-ons for Firefox
    2. Click Add to Firefox and Install
    3. Navigate to the far right of the screen and click, you should see SAML Tracer

    How it works

Open SAML Tracer and a network box will appear independent of the browser. Navigate to your Jive community URL and click back on SAML Tracer to see the network traffic being populated.

Authenticate into your community as usual then navigate back to the SAML Tracer window. You should see a recording of your authentication. This contains useful information for troubleshooting various SSO issues.

    Exporting the trace file

Select the Export button in the SAML tracer window:
