Google Authorship: Linking Jive Content to Google+

Version 1

Link your Google+ account to your Jive based content to improve the visibility and click through rates from search engines.

For example, when you successfully link them, your headshot will appear alongside your content in search results. Such results stand out from others on the page and tend to receive more clicks, regardless if you're in the first or fifth position:

There are two ways to link your content:

    • Verifying your eMail address
    • Linking your content to your Google+ profile

Linking your Jive content to your Google+ profile using a verified email address

This method only works if you have an eMail address on the same domain as your Jive community. (e.g. me@example.com + community.example.com)

    1. Open a Google+ account: https://plus.google.com
    2. Have a good quality profile photo with a recognizable headshot
    3. Make sure a byline containing your name appears on each page of your content (for example, "By John Doe").
    4. Make sure your byline name matches the name on your Google+ profile
    5. Go to https://plus.google.com/authorship to complete the process with your same domain eMail address
    6. Add links back to your community in the Contributor to section of your Google+ profile.

Set up authorship by linking your Jive content to your Google+ profile

Use this method if you don't have an eMail address on the same domain as the community. To use this method, you must add a link from every content item created!

    1. Open a Google+ account: https://plus.google.com
    2. Add a recognizable headshot to your profile photo
    3. Create a link to your Google+ profile from your content, preferably at the bottom:
      <p>Follow me on<a href="[profile_url]?rel=author">Google+</a></p>
      • It will be easier to do this in HTML mode: you'll find the HTML toggle at the far right of the advanced text editor toolbar

      • Replace [profile_url] with the your Google+ profile URL
    4. Lastly, add reciprocal links from your Google+ profile to community in the Contributor to section of your profile.
