The Jive Antivirus Extension is a plugin that allows a Jive instance to integrate with a virus scan server so that binary content uploaded to the Jive instance can be checked for violations and prevent users from downloading the content if a violation is found. This document will guide you through the end user experience when the Antivirus Extension is enabled. A separate Administrator's Guide is also available. For versions earlier than 6.0, see Jive Antivirus Extension User's Guide for 5.0 and earlier.
The user experience for attaching and uploading files remains the same as the out of the box Jive experience when the Antivirus Extension is installed. Attachments for all content types (including blog posts, discussions and documents) as well as uploaded files will be scanned once the content is posted.
Viewing and Downloading Files
In many cases, the scan will complete by the time the content posts. If the file does not contain any violations, it will be available for download immediately and the time since the scan will be displayed.
If a violation is detected, the link to download the attachment is removed and a message displays indicating a violation has been detected and that the file has been removed. The file is not recoverable once a violation has been detected.
If there was an error scanning the file or it has not yet been scanned, the file will still be linked for download but the behavior when the link is clicked changes from the out of the box experience. When the user clicks the link, a scan will be triggered. A progress indicator will display to the user to show that the file is being scanned. When the scan completes, if no violations are found, the file will be downloaded. If a violation is found, the file is not downloaded and a message displays indicating a violation has been detected.

The file automatically downloads once the scan is complete.
If the System Administrator has configured the Antivirus Extension to notify content authors when a violation is found, the user that uploads the file will receive a notification in their Action stream if the file they uploaded is found to contain a violation. An e-mail will only be sent if the user has e-mail notifications enabled for Actions in their E-mail Preferences.
