In a nutshell, JiveWorld has over 60 hours of sessions interspersed with with games, meet-ups, parties and food. All of this occurs places like outside by the pool or inside air-conditioned auditoriums over the span of 2-4 days in Vegas.  So what are you supposed to bring? Do you pack a swimsuit? A sweater? shorts? Business attire? A cocktail dress? All the above?

Last year Libby Taylor pulled together a wonderful blog about the Dos and Don't for Attending JiveWorld and the previous year she helped us out with Top 10 Things to Bring to JiveWorld (with a Fun Video!). This year, we asked the JiveWorks community for their input in Help! What packing tips do you have for JiveWorld? and as seasoned JiveWorld goers, they didn't disappoint! Here is the complete list of recommendations from people who know exactly what they are talking about so that all you need to worry about is having the best conference ever.

Personal items:

  • Portable phone chargers (these will be available at the Jive Store with a cool Jive logo if you forget yours!)
  • Band-aids or moleskin (fabulous shoes don't always feel fabulous!)
  • Chapstick
  • Gum / mints
  • Camera
  • Electrical converters and adapters if you're coming from overseas
  • Personal snacks - just in case you get the late night munchies or need some comfort food!
  • Headphones for the airplane

Keeping yourself operating at 100%:

  • Pain reliever of choice (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc.)
  • Alkaseltzer
  • Eyedrops! If you want to participate in all the activities from 6am - late night parties you won't be getting much sleep!
  • Tums - because in the words of Libby Taylor - "the amounts of drinking and the food are not normal."
  • Hand sanitizer / wet wipes
  • Prescription medicines if you have them
  • Sleep aids (ear plugs, eye masks, melatonin, etc.)

  • Comfortable shoes - this has been emphasized by several veteran JiveWorld attendees
  • Layers - it's cold inside and hot outside, with a range of up to 20 degrees!
  • A party outfit for the final night party!
  • Flip flops! It's also great to switch out of when your feet are tired
  • Workout clothes - if you'd like to visit the gym hotel or participate in Yoga or the Running group

During the conference:

  • Notebook for those who take notes on paper
  • Business cards - this is a great networking opportunity!
  • Water bottle strap to keep your hands free and prevent leaving water bottles behind

Outdoor items:

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat - the sun is intense!
  • Sunglasses
  • Bathing suit
  • Shorts

Tips from the pros:

  • Wear comfortable clothing - you may not have time to change between daytime and evening activities! (Except for the final night party.)
  • Keep in mind that the walk from the rooms to the conference rooms is longer than you think so wear comfy shoes!
  • Pack for low temperatures as you will spend most of your time indoors
  • Bring an extra bag - you will collect random things throughout the conference
  • Some slot machines have USBs on them so you can charge your phone
  • Bring a portable charger - outlets are tough to come by (and usually have a huge crowd around them)
  • Bring pain reliever - the low humidity will give you a headache, even if you don't add alcohol
  • Bring a notebook for people who like good old fashion note-taking!
  • Checking out of the hotel in the morning but staying most of the day? The hotel will hold your luggage for you!

That's it! I'm ready to go to Vegas, are you?

Have more tips or packing suggestions? Let me know!

Thank you to all these awesome people who helped me put together this list: Kirsten Laaspere, Dori Gray, Jim Storer, Julie Cardinali Brancik, Nick Wallander, Tamera Rousseau-Vesta, Dina Vekaria-Patel, Christy Schoon and Libby Taylor!

We look forward to seeing you all at JiveWorld17!

Hello JiveWorks!

My name is Heather Kattner and I'm a Product Marketing Director at Jive. At JiveWorld17 on May 3rd I will be leading the Industry Focus track. Each industry is unique in its business needs and use cases for Jive, so we have brought in four different industries from Telecommunications, Health, Retail & the highly regulated industry of Financial Services for this track. During these four sessions we are going to look at how each company tackled issues common to enterprise companies. Join our session if your company is in the midst of a cultural, digital or any other kind of transformation and gain insights on how other companies in your industry are taking control and driving change for better.

Track owner: Heather Kattner

Target audience: Companies in the midst of transformation (cultural, digital, etc.)

Session type: 4 Presentations

Number of sessions: 4 (Day 2 only, May 3)

Internal or external: Internal

Company size: Medium to large companies

The Industry Focus track includes four presentations from four companies in various industries but provides use cases that can be applied across the board. Regardless of which industry your company represents, you will find the obstacles faced by enterprise companies – such as critical change in management, brand transformation or empowering employees – insightful and informative. Here is the break down of all four sessions including their industry and the obstacle they have utilized Jive to overcome:

Company: Verizon

Obstacle: Overcoming a critical change in management; better employee communication

Representing the telecommunications industry, Verizon will explain how they guided employees through tough changes in management and built connections between departments across the company. They also found that engagement, sales and collaboration suffer when employees don't trust the company or are kept in the dark. To overcome this obstacle, Verizon will describe how they pushed for transparency across the company and built a better culture as they became more customer-centric.

Company: Cerner

Obstacle: Executive communications after rapid expansion

Cerner faced a common issue when the company grew to 24,000 global employees in a short period of time. Take advantage of this real-life use case and learn how they dealt with this issue and managed to increase executive blog communication by 170% and average engagement on the blogs by 39%. In this session, you will walk away with best practices for facilitating executive communication using Jive and how to avoid pitfalls in your own communications or change management.

Company: Kiabi

Obstacle: Pushing brand transformation in a modern world

Trends never remain stagnant, and companies never should either. Join Kiabi as they revamp their brand as retail is being turned on its head in the era of customer-first and online shopping. They took on the challenge of empowering employees to drive the transformation with the motto "happy customers start with happy employees." This session is a success story by Kiabi who was voted as one of the best places to work in France in 2017 and how they got there by using Jive to align their business values and creating change with their employees at the helm.

Financial Services

Company: Citibank

Obstacle: Building on success as a mature community and encouraging personal development among employees

Hear about the 5-year relationship Citibank has shared with Jive — where they began, what they wanted to achieve, where they are now and where they are going. If you are in a regulated industry, hear how Citibank engages and encourages culture as well as learn best practices from their mature community. Citibank is also unique in that it has a completely separate intranet that they use in conjunction with Jive. Jive is an integral part of their culture as they use it to help employees with personal development through gamification, fundraising events and personal health campaigns. These orchestrated activities have helped Citibank make a bigger impact on the work culture in an incredible way.

Whether your company struggles with a recent brand, cultural, expansion revolution, benefit from these presentations across four sectors and how they have leveraged Jive to spark digital transformation.

I look forward to seeing you at JiveWorld!

~ Heather

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Las Vegas? No, not that thing, the other thing. That’s right, it’s gaming! And who would we be if we didn’t give you what you want while you’re in Vegas for JiveWorld17?

Gaming is how casinos pay for all those flashing lights, loud buzzers, exquisite rooms and world-class entertainment. Without gaming, the city wouldn’t be the mega-destination it is today; instead it would still be home to a few tumbleweeds and more rattlesnakes than you can shake a stick at (although shaking sticks at rattlesnakes is not a game we recommend).

The best part of Jive gaming is you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

I hope you are as excited as we are to have two incredibly brilliant Keynote speakers this year at JiveWorld17! You may have heard their names or recognize their accomplishments, but we want to make sure you know more about them before you arrive at JiveWorld. On May 2nd and 3rd, Mark Kelley from NASA and Dacher Keltner, Professor of Psychology at the University of Berkley will be inspiring us with their great speeches!

Mark Kelly

NASA space mission commander and American hero Captain Mark Kelly demonstrates how focus, dedication and persistence can help you tap into your potential to succeed in any competitive setting.

With an extraordinary career of service to our military, our nation and humanity, Mark has secured his place in history as a role model, modern-day pioneer, and leader of distinction. Together with his identical twin brother, Scott, he has laid the groundwork for the future of space exploration as the subjects of an unprecedented NASA study on how space affects the human body.

Mark captivates audiences with lessons learned from his extensive travels and experiences in the Navy, outer space and on the ground. From leading teams in some of the most dynamic environments imaginable, to the thrill of spaceflight, and the recovery and resilience of his wife Gabrielle Giffords, he reveals the foundations for success so you can accomplish your mission in life and work.

Dacher Keltner

Dacher Keltner is a Professor of Psychology at the University of California at Berkeley, Director of the Berkeley Social Interaction Lab, and serves as the Faculty Director of the Berkeley Greater Good Science Center. His research focuses the biological and evolutionary origins of compassion, awe, love, and beauty, as well as power, social class, and inequality.

Keltner is the author of the new book The Power Paradox (Penguin, May 2016), as well as the bestseller Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life and The Compassionate Instinct. He has published over 190 scientific ar ticles, including seminal works on the psychology of awe (Keltner & Haidt, 2003) and is the co-author of two textbooks. He has written for the New York Times Magazine, London Times, and Utne Reader, and his research has been covered in Time, Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, CNN, NPR, and the BBC as well as many other outlets.

In addition to his university work and research, Dacher Keltner has collaborated on projects at Facebook and Google. Most recently, Keltner was the scientific consultant for Pixar’s award winning film Inside Out, for which he helped revise the story emphasizing the neuropsychological findings that human emotions are mirrored in interpersonal relationships and can be significantly moderated by them.

Here's a sneak preview of Dacher Keltner's keynote speech — from Dacher himself!

And this year - our customers continue to deliver with unique stories and techniques, some very advanced. Be sure to check out the amazing stories from customers and thought leaders alike! And I'm so happy to welcome a co-track lead this year be sure to come by and say hello to Rob Ryan.

Wanna know how to use data to make decisions or prove value? Yeah, we got that.

I remember year after year wondering how I would possibly find enough customers that would talk about Measurement!  It's the #1 topic our customers ask for - and for years it was hard to find good customer stories.  This year almost. every. single. session. has some angle on "using data" to drive adoption, prove value or take action. You won't want to miss:

How do I prove my value? Measuring the Community Manager and making the case to grow the team - Kirsten Laaspere - Akamai Technologies, Teri Wayne - New York Life Insurance Company.  Too often we measure the community, but fail to measure ourselves. These customers have figured out ways to measure the program leader, how to assert their worth and how to use data to justify added program resources! Target Communities: While internal stories, techniques applicable to external, too!

Driving Adoption with Data - Kathryn Everest - Pearson, Dina Vekaria-Patel - Pearson.  Jedi Masters, Kathryn and Dina, will share their data exploration approaches, how they used insights to make decisions for change and how they used data again to analyze their results. Leave with some unique ideas to solving global engagement challenges. Target Communities: Internal

Want to make better decisions? Stop using simple analytics. Start using detailed insights using Jive’s DES and well-designed member surveys - Ted Hopton - McGraw-Hill Education.  You won't want to miss Ted-the-metric-master cover how he used data insights from DES and from a series of Survey campaigns to try to solve the "Search Problem".  Target Communities: While an internal story, techniques applicable to external, too!

Using community sentiment or contextual analysis tools to drive business outcomes: Ana Miksche DISH, Caton Guilbault T-Mobile USA Inc. Both customers will share how to use surveys, stakeholder interviews and Jive's contextual analytics to derive insights to drive product improvements, service customers better or even make sales more effective. Target Communities: Internal and external

Or do you want innovative ways to engage customers or engage executives? We got that, too!

Getting the C-Suite to pay attention: Strategic uses cases for internal communities to manage company transitions, mergers and corporate initiatives
Dennis Pearce - Lexmark International, Inc., Tammy Triplett - Leidos. These customers share very strategic uses of their communities that tied directly to company initiatives and kept executives coming back to leverage to communicate and engage employees. Target Communities: Internal

Getting your community groove back. The fine art of reengaging customers and keeping your program relevant Adrian Chang - Oracle Marketing Cloud, Biray Seitz - Instructure. Two very different approaches will be shared to driving deeper customer engagement and content programming either by focusing on the roles of brand SMEs in solving customer problems or by transferring peer-to-peer event planning to members to drive exponential engagement. Target Communities: External

Or do you want to be inspired by the best industry experts? Yup, we got experts, too!

Building the Business Case to Defend and Grow Your Program - Rachel Happe - The Community Roundtable. Rachel's session covers the fine art of building the business case to get to year 2 or beyond by adding story telling, an effective narrative to the right data to prove success and ask for resources with authority. Target Communities: Internal and external

How Analytics and AI-Enhanced Apps Help Us Become More Effective Employees - Alan Lepofsky - Constellation Research. With information overload employees are stretched thinner than ever. Alan shares future innovation trends we can expect to see to drive greater productivity.  And Wendy Bloechle will wrap up with ways you can use Jive today to get insights and be more effective. Target Communities: Internal
