Regular comments to a document can be edited by the author, but inline comments cannot. The consequence of this inconsistency in approach is that some commenters end up creating two variations of comments on the same item as the original one cannot be modified. I would understand if the approach was: no comments can be edited, once you said it, you can only delete it or add a reply with a clarification or change of mind. Letting one be edited but not the other is the worse of two worlds.
