Going by the high volume of ideas on JC and the additional information sometimes in the discussion, whilst ideas are often similar - and we've had here 2 or even 3 ideas covering the same 'broad' topics they are, in my view, rarely 'identical'.
Perhaps trying to educate users to give the ideas good, detailed subject lines and to then notice the recommended Similar Ideas might help reduce the creation of duplicates. Of course if Jive allowed you to hover a Similar Idea subject line to view the whole thing, rather than needing to right click it an open in another browser tab would make it easier for someone starting to create a new idea to stop in their tracks if their is already one that is close, rather than creating a near duplicate.
Hopefully whoever is reviewing ideas, Olivia for example, will read all of them and not just look at the top ones and therefore miss two that are sitting at positions #15 and #16 which if merged together would make the cut. How you evaluate the ideas will / should have a bearing on how critical the existence of close duplicates might be.

Worth adding that to the idea?
