Re: Welcome to the Texas User Group! Please introduce yourself.
mnevillDec 30, 2011 9:58 AM (in response to Ryan Rutan)
I'm the Community Manager for my company's external support community. This is all fairly new to me and I have learned a LOT of lessons already. We decided to start out on Jive 5.0 and are currently in beta with hopes of going live sometime in Q1 of 2012. I was involved in all of the requirements, business decisions, evaluation of vendors (kudos to Jive for destroying the competition with their great platform), and implementation to date. We are using Jive as a forum for users to help each other as well as a replacement to our current kb in hopes that we can deflect a lot of support calls. I would like to meet people in or around Houston or Dallas to share best practices for Jive in general and specifically related to external support communities. I think most of the Texas users are in Austin (that I can tell). If everyone decided to do a Texas meet and greet in Austin at some point I would try to coordinate a drive up if possible. I'm an Aggie but no hard feelings to all the ut fans.
Thanks,
Matt-
Re: Welcome to the Texas User Group! Please introduce yourself.
rshepler Jan 3, 2012 10:41 AM (in response to mnevill)Gig'Em Matt. Plenty of Ags here in Austin... don't worry.
A meet & greet in Austin sounds good by me. I would be interested in seeing how others in the area are using JIVE and particularly with any non-standard or unique customizations to meet their needs. Would also be good to consolidate any feature requests or see where we have common requests and approach JIVE together.
About me... I am managing a group of developers responsible for support and maintenance of 2 JIVE platform instances (external on ni.com and internal for enterprise collaboration). We just executed an upgrade to JIVE 5.0 for our internal instance this past fall. Internally, the platform gets widespread use across the org, from light project mgmt, to document sharing, to using discussions as a replacement for email threads. Ability to share docs and collaborate on these docs with other users at all of our global sites has been a big benefit. External is on 4.6 with a potential upgrade later this year TBD. Our customers use JIVE on ni.com to discuss product implementations, organize user groups, share code snippets developed with our software tools, compete in some gaming competitions, etc. Our product support engineers also use the platform to collaborate with our customers pretty heavily on issues and potential solutions.

ridingo Jan 4, 2012 9:42 AM (in response to Ryan Rutan)Ryan, Happy New Year! Thanks for setting this up. There should be plenty of local Austin folks interested in this site. A meet up in January seems like a good idea. I spoke with Greg Shirley about this today and told him to contact you. Looking forward to a great 2012 with this excellent community manager group.
cheers

mmercado Jun 5, 2013 10:24 AM (in response to Ryan Rutan)Hello everyone. Mike Mercado from Good Technology here. This will be my 2nd Texas User Group meeting. I'm also a 2 time vet of Jive World. Good times...we'll leave it at that.
Look forward to seeing everyone and discussing the latest with Jive 7 - which is great and distressing all at the same time since we're still on Jive 5. So one of the topics I want to hear about is the transition service to help companies move their hosted instance over, and experiences of those who have made this migration.
The other is SalesForce integration. There is a push to adopt Chatter (yikes!) and I need all the ammo necessary to keep that from happening.
See you in Austin.

brian.reynolds Jun 5, 2013 10:41 AM (in response to mmercado)Hello Mike
I look forward to meeting and interacting with you. Feel free to reach out surrounding any questions you might have on upgrades and migrations. 7Summits has successfully navigated these waters with many Jive clients. We have actually developed a content mover plugin that allows content migration in mass, which has provided amazing results
Cheers,
Brian

ridingo Feb 25, 2014 5:42 PM (in response to racheld)Welcome Rachel. Is using a collaboration community part of the new radio shack? I don't think the 80s were that bad.
See, I wear my sunglasses at night. Someone name that band!
Assume you are using Jive internally. Looked at the shack online and don't see a community section.
Regardless, you will find all the community info you need in the JC. Some really awesome folks here. Have fun!

I'm also in Austin and happy to do an Austin based meetup at our offices or at an offsite location in town. We just added a new external community manager here as well Samantha Lopez and I'm sure she'd love to join as well. Not sure who from Jive is actually scheduling, but we can always do an informal meetup if you'd like as well.

Welcome. At Spredfast we use Jive both internally and externally. We evaluated a number of tools before deciding on Jive about 18 months ago. Happy to answer specific questions if you like but you may also find good info in the Jive Internal Communities and Jive External Communities groups.

annjdavis Apr 29, 2016 10:10 AM (in response to Ryan Rutan)Hi everyone. I recently started a new role and am now managing my company's Jive community. I came from a company that has a very active community where I was a member, but not the community admin, so I although I'm familiar with Jive, I have a TON to learn. I welcome any suggestions that you have on getting up to speed on all of the functionality of the platform and would love to attend any user group events in the Austin area.
