ann154 Mar 12, 2014 7:17 AM (in response to michal.trigoda@nice.com)What would be your reasons for using the app versus accessing your site via a mobile browser?

ann154 Mar 12, 2014 8:12 AM (in response to michal.trigoda@nice.com)Alerts for new content? Considering how fast my Inbox/Communications Tab reaches 50+ in less than four hours, I'll pass and say "No thanks".

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
ac255026 Mar 12, 2014 8:02 AM (in response to ann154)The App gives you a great interface to quickly and easily receive updates and reply to Discussions for example without having to Login to the Community each time I want to check if there are any updates.

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
ann154 Mar 12, 2014 8:16 AM (in response to ac255026)I can currently remain logged into Jive login for this community and and the other Jive based forum for the entire day without getting logged out. The only time I notice getting logged out is if I don't access the website for close to 24 hours on that specific device.

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
ac255026 Mar 12, 2014 8:45 AM (in response to ann154)Annette,
So on that note there are a couple of things. We do not allow access from a mobile device (phone) unless using the app. In the case someone where to mistakenly leave their phone somewhere for example a bystander cannot then access the content in our Community. Then as well the app gives a much better view into the Community as the view/actions were built for a mobile device. Trying to view from the browser is more time consuming unless you have a larger screen and even at that ill pass. With that being said when I am on a tablet I prefer the browser view over the app.

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
ann154 Mar 12, 2014 9:20 AM (in response to ac255026)The instance of Jive platform I experience on a daily basis is Jive 5 version and the occasional Jive 6 (with this forum). When I used the Jive for Mobile app because of a limitation of the device I was using, the functionality of the mobile site versus the applications was minimal in appearance. The only difference was the ability to add images to status updates. Perhaps other sites using the new Jive 7 or a different configuration of Jive 6 provides more functionality in the application. It would have to be impressive.
I can certainly understand if the site itself restricts access to the app from a mobile device. Security protocols for a company override any personal opinions for using the app. Since I have the choice for the community I frequent, that's where I would add password protection for the device itself for the additional protection. Although if a person could get passed the phone security, wouldn't that person have easy access to the application? I noticed the Jive app version I used never logged out of the forum and didn't have a true exit from the application function including not getting the back button to work. With the browser version, I can close out the browser window and it log me out if not accessed from that device within several hours.

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
ac255026 Mar 12, 2014 9:25 AM (in response to ann154)Annette,
For our users they have to Log into the App each time and it has a time out as an added layer to prevent someone from just being able to click on the app if there were able to get past the users phone security first. You nailed it though when you talked about limitations for your device, I think you will find users preferences vary greatly simply due to the device they are working with. And I don't do everything from my phone, I am still of the belief that some things are still best suited for my PC or tablet but again that could just be my own use case!

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
ann154 Mar 12, 2014 9:44 AM (in response to ac255026)Actually the limitation for the device had more to do with the keyboard text predictions not displaying for the mobile browser version and for some reason working in the application. Once the phone OS version was updated, it was no longer a problem.
I too prefer to use the desktop view of the site and often have to use it even on my phone. I prefer to access the desktop view from a tablet or a computer. Since the desktop view is the only view where I can see how many replies have been added to a particular thread since my last read of it, edit my posts, report issues to the moderation or create Shares and Direct Messages, it see considerable more use from me then the mobile site/app view. The mobile view has been relegated to reading and quick replies for my use case.

Re: Mobile apps for android jive 7 on cloud
it2000 Jun 29, 2014 8:18 AM (in response to wirojhir@scg.co.th)Interesting wording - You may want to edit your post.
sandbox.jiveon.com claims: invalid username or password.
community.jivesoftware.com is still 7.0.0.1 but 7.0.1+ is required by the app.
That's the right time to uninstall the app. :-(
