Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
clara.liang Apr 29, 2015 10:10 PM (in response to lauramac)Hi Laura! Jive Chime doesn't currently integrate with Jive-n or Jive-x communities, although we have thoughts on how this will work as we go forward. Realtime communications are only going to become more important over time. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how you'd like to see Chime work with a community -- customer feedback and real world examples shape the roadmap!

tamerajr Apr 30, 2015 6:31 AM (in response to clara.liang)2 people found this helpfulThere are two things I think we would like to see from integrating with Jive-n. Chat with those that you follow (driving members to follow more people in the community) and the ability to save a chat that could benefit a space or be able to reference the chat later by having it available in your inbox, similar to what Lync does.

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
lauramac May 1, 2015 6:54 AM (in response to clara.liang)HI Clara!
That's a bummer, I was hoping that I could share conversations in a community. LIke Tamera Rousseau-Vesta said, convert a conversation into a discussion in a space.
For example, I get a lot of chats all day asking simple questions on how to do things in the community, it would be nice to transform those into a conversation in the community so more people could see them.

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
NathanielElliott Jun 12, 2015 6:42 PM (in response to lauramac)I would completely agree, I had hoped that Lync - Jive Software would have done the same but that doesn't have this integration either.

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
nilsheuer Jun 15, 2015 2:52 AM (in response to NathanielElliott)This is an interesting one. We had this functionality in our IBM Sametime Connector for Jive a few years back. People initially really liked the idea, but eventually every customer chose not to implement it.
Reasons:
- Legal/privacy concerns that sensitive information would be too easily published into Jive
- Related to that but from a different perspective: The social contract around IM conversations is not well defined. Most people tend to agree that IM conversations are private and sharing them is not something that should be done without asking for permission. Other people think different: Potential for some very tense situations. Contrast this with email where it is generally ok for most people that email conversations get forwarded/converted to Jive unless it is explicitly stated as private. So the behavior with email is generally understood by the majority of the workforce, while for IM there are a lot of pitfalls still.
- It's yet another client side plugin to deploy and maintain
Just my 2 cents.

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
lauramac Jun 15, 2015 8:21 AM (in response to nilsheuer)I can see you points completely! Definitely something to work through, but I do challenge how converting a private conversation in an email is different than a chat. We can utilize the plugins to convert an email, and we need to use safe judgement and discretion when doing so. I would think that chat would work very much the same way.
I can see this getting hairy for external communities, but I would love to see the functionality in an internal community such as an intranet type community.

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
vnieuwenbp Jul 13, 2015 12:36 AM (in response to lauramac)Our employees are really sad now they have lost their chat beta client in Jive-N. The reason it was so popular: you could mention content and all other stuff in Jive. This really boosts productivity and that is why we would like to have Chimes integrated in a next release or even sooner for beta testers :-0 We would volunteer for that!
The integration with Skype or Lync is not really an integration, it is just starting the IM client of the user and that's it.... It's a pity... because chatting with the community connected is much much more powerful.
Also an other advantage of the basic beta chat (real time) client in Jive-N was that it worked for Windows and Mac users. We have a multi OS company so in fact the real time chat of Jive facilitated perfectly the dialogue between those two worlds... Now there is no alternative for my company because Skype for business isn't available for Mac... So the integration with Skype or Lync is useless.
I keep my fingers crossed that Jive Chimes will be soon available in the great platform Jive-N so working with purpose, efficient and effectively will be (again) possible.

We are actively working on the integration, and while some things are already being finalized, some things require us to better capture your requirements.
This thread is a great place to provide such details (keep it coming, we are taking notes!) and we will also reach out to some of you and ask for a short interview to better understand your workflows and what matters to you.

hernan.guelman Jul 16, 2015 7:20 PM (in response to vnieuwenbp)Hi John, Philippe,
That document is for internal consumption as it it our work in progress road-map. You asked if we have a wishlist, and that is it :-)
Feel free to give us *your* wish list. The categories that I am tracking (from that document) are things like (feel free to express your vision and value for these items):
Initiate Chime from Jive
-- Click To Chime: From Jive (Browser in PC/Mac, or Mobile) click on a user profile and launch the Chime app to start a chat with that person
-- Share with Chime: From Jive (Browser in PC/Mac, or Mobile) in the context of a group or document, open Chime with a link to that content/place
Content Integration
In Chime:
- Render Jive links with content snippet
- Be able to mention Jive content
In Jive
- Upgrade chime to Jive discussion: create a discussion with the body populated from Chime.
ID Integration (very active roadmap)
Presence (longer term)

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
yrnclndymn Jul 17, 2015 3:00 AM (in response to hernan.guelman)One of the things that we are looking for (that I don't see mentioned here) is the ability to embed a persistent conversation within a Jive group. This would allow an interaction where someone browsing content (for instance, looking at Chime content here) could then see if others were around, and ping questions through in chat. Others would then be able to see this conversation within the context of the space too.
The tricky part here is figuring out membership - does a person always want to get added to the Chime group if they are part of the Jive group (and vice versa)? Our initial investigations suggest the answer is 'sometimes' - largely dependent on the purpose of the group, and what the visibility settings are. Our groups are generally open, but split into two kinds of participation - "communities" tend to have an even distribution of participants; and "teams" tend to have a divide between the folks on a team, and those that want to talk with them on a more ad-hoc basis. If I join a community, I'm likely to want to be part of chat discussions too; if I am part of a team, I want to be added to the team chat too; but if I'm just dropping in to ask the team a question, I don't really then want to be alerted to their chats for ever more. I think it roughly parallels the distinction between member and follower - the question would be whether this is something that is true enough to automate, and how to deal with exceptions? Particularly at scale, I don't see how to avoid having some answer for this, though.
cheers!

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
j94305 Feb 11, 2016 7:25 AM (in response to yrnclndymn)The concept of having a separate group concept for Chime and Jive is flawed in my opinion.
The "places" of a JIve instance (site, groups, projects) should be able to serve as chat containers by default.
In addition, one may create further conversation threads in these places as emphemeral chat rooms (permanent chat rooms could be created by using a Chime group attached to a subplace).
The current concept of keeping Chime and Jive separate may have serious technical reasons, but from the standpoint of usability and integration, it is a mess. The fluid transition between a Jive community and a chat session is not possible. Due to the lack of documentation of jive-chime URLs (at least as far as it is visible to me), I cannot even place a hard link in a Jive group to enter a chat session on the subject of the group.
As it stands right now, I see no advantage to using Jive Chime over Skype, Viber or any other chat tool. The integration presented is absolutely insufficient.
Cheers,
--Jürgen

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
hernan.guelman Feb 11, 2016 9:05 AM (in response to j94305)Great points Jurgen,
We agree, that 1:1 mapping of a Jive group and a Chime group make sense. Having that association would have benefits such as group membership being "in-sync".
There is however an alternative use case that is in addition, not instead of the 1:1 group map: What if the object in Jive to be associated with a IM chat is not a group, but a specific document?
Similar to Jives "a-sync" comments feature that are associated with a document, you could start a IM chat? And what if you could have different IM "threads"?
Would having a 1:many mapping, or association of chime discussions with a document be valuable?

Are you saying this is available today, but through the paid version?
"Upgrade chime to Jive discussion: create a discussion with the body populated from Chime."
Would you be able to share ETA of the enhancements from roadmap? We're looking at Slack but want to understand what Chime offers that would be different.Thanks.

hernan.guelman Aug 12, 2015 3:20 PM (in response to shirlin)Hi Shirlin,
Some of the Integrations are coming in the next 1-3 months. Some will take a bit longer.
Specifically, "Upgrade chime to Jive discussion: create a discussion with the body populated from Chime." is not available right now.
Some of the integrations will be included in the Jive offering, but I suggest that you contact your sales representative as these options become available to get more details on the commercial side.

trsbase Jul 24, 2015 4:09 PM (in response to hernan.guelman)1 person found this helpfulHello Hernan Guelman,
Great to hear that Chime is being integrated in to Jive-X. I think this use case will be picking up a lot of momentum. I read a recent post on HootSuite on Slack being used for communities which you can read here Why Community Builders are Choosing Slack
There are some live-chat community examples posted here https://medium.com/@angiecois/an-incomplete-list-of-communities-on-slack-1b1b6f157bda
My wishlist for Jive Chime: Seamless integration with Jive-X communities where users can spawn a real-time chat session and then provide the ability to convert/turn that conversation in to a persistent thread (the current jive-x discussion threads). This live chat can be used by among community members or by companies doing live chat with customers for issues. In more advanced cases, users would also be able to spawn a webex session directly from the live session chat for advanced use cases such as dektop sharing etc.

jaritars Jul 24, 2015 8:50 AM (in response to lauramac)1 person found this helpfulWe have JiveX and would like to have someone Man a chat window and in case a customer has issues, they could chat with us right away from an imbedded chat client. Is there any integration like that? It would be nice if the customer could open the chat without having to download a separate client. Any information would be helpful!

Jordan Dayton May 23, 2016 12:46 PM (in response to jaritars)We are also very interested in what Jarita Sirois outlined here (We currently have two Jive-x communities where we'd like to have a RTC option like this. Jarita, were you able to connect with Hernan and discuss some options as he suggested? It looks like Hernan's user account has been deactivated - Hernan Guelman :-(
What Jarita suggested sounds very similar in nature to what these other users suggested:
Libby Taylor could you connect us with someone who might be able to offer some alternate suggestions that could be used/integrated into Jive as RTC options in the meantime, and also possibly let us know if this functionality is on the radar of the Jive development teams?

Re: How does Jive Chime integrate with a Jive Community?
jaritars May 23, 2016 12:51 PM (in response to Jordan Dayton)1 person found this helpfulI was never able to connect - I tried a couple of times. We are currently looking into another option called Genesys Web Chat http://www.genesys.com/resources/Genesys-Chat-Product-DS.pdf . They provide html code which we believe will work in the jive page and open a client box to allow the support guys to answer there. Both sides seem to think it will work but I haven't been able to test yet since I haven't gotten the purchasing green light. Downside is they are expensive but we believe the return will out weight the cost.
I was really disappointed that Chime didn't give me any alternative. Sorry Jordan Dayton I dont have better news.

I'm struggling to reconcile your comments here with what I heard at JiveWorld a couple of months ago - and wonder if there is something you could share that would help show what *is* on the roadmap for real-time collaboration for customers of Jive-n?
I'm thinking specifically of comments made by Nick Hill in the main stage day 2 keynote (from around 21:30 on), as well as answers to questions in the Design @ Jive presentation (starting a little after 49:30).
thanks!

This thread has been running for over a year now, so I'm sure you are aware that this has become a really hot topic for many of us, with pressures building to outline our own strategies (and indeed make some pretty big decisions) - getting a clearer picture of both near and long term roadmap will be very helpful, and I look forward to hearing more soon.
