triplettt Mar 30, 2017 7:37 AM (in response to cflanagan17)JiveWorlds I've attended
- JiveWorld12 - brand new customer (deer in the headlights)
- JiveWorld13 - customer (everything still feels new)
- JiveWorld14 - customer (getting comfortable)
- JiveWorld16 - customer (my company, Leidos, presented as part of the Advanced Community Management track: Driving a culture of Innovation and Collaboration)
and very much looking forward to
5. JiveWorld17 - customer (Leidos will be presenting several sessions including in the Federal Summit, Mature and Engagement tracks and helping out with Bootcamp)
What am I most looking forward to?
- Hearing all the great presentations by Jive and Jive customers about all the innovative ways they are developing and using Jive.
- Interacting/networking with Jivers and Jive customers. Seeing old and meeting new friends.
- Spending a few days in fabulous Las Vegas!

2 people found this helpfulThis will be my fourth JiveWorld. I definitely look forward each year to hearing about Jive's roadmap and strategic direction, as well as any new features that might be right around the corner. And the ability to mingle with Jive's developers to express my wish list and concerns.
But that's the sort of thing that I look forward to at any IT vendor's user conference. What really separates JiveWorld apart from the others for me is its focus on customers.
- I don't know of any other vendor conference where well over half the presentations are by customers talking about use cases vs. employees talking about features. This is important to me because I have learned from my own experiences with internal Jive training that because it has so many features, use case training is much more effective than feature training when it comes to gaining adoption.
- This focus on customers even extends to the shaping of the conference itself. My first JW in 2013, I remember attending an ad hoc session on gamification that Ted Hopton arranged because he wanted to learn how other customers were using it. The next year I arranged a discussion on using Jive for HR & Corporate Communications, and last year arranged a discussion on Working Out Loud. So it's impressive to me that compared to many other vendors, Jive is so willing to make room for customers to create their own agendas.
- Eventually it starts to feel like a family reunion, minus all the annoying relatives.

1 person found this helpfulThis will be #7. The only one that I missed was the very first one, and that's because I wasn't a community manager. Yet. Missed it by about three months in terms of when I was hired.
I love the excitement, the enthusiasm, the glimpses of things that may (or may not) be coming soon.Mostly, though, it is the people. I love connecting with new people (even the ones whose names I forget - sorry!!). I love catching up with the staff at Jive, as well as meeting new staff members. And I love that feeling of coming home to be with friends. It is like all the stuff we do to promote community online spills over into making the customer community a big family.
Can't wait to see you guys!!

And yes Dennis Pearce this is what kept me coming back as a customer - and what energizes me still about JiveWorld! vvvvvvv

lorilea Mar 30, 2017 9:20 AM (in response to cflanagan17)1 person found this helpfulThis will be #6 for me. The first year we had no idea what we were doing and it seemed very overwhelming. The second year our company presented during one of the sessions in a panel-style format.
I love that JiveWorld offers the opportunity to make some really great connections with other Jive customers. Everyone has so much knowledge to share! I also really appreciate the workshops that Jive has built into the agenda these past two years. We outgrew the new-community feeling after a couple of years and it's wonderful to be able to learn more about the things that other mature communities are facing.

I love learning about all of the new features being planned that I won't get to play with for years
, and what I most love is learning from other customers how they use their Jive platforms, how they train employees, etc. I've gotten some great ideas, and it's this exchange of ideas that are specific to the tool I use all day every day that separates JW from other industry conferences I might go to.

thebryceswrite Mar 30, 2017 10:56 AM (in response to cflanagan17)1 person found this helpfulHey Claire! I think this is number five.
- JiveWorld 11 - My first as a relatively new customer...I have proof because I still use the profile picture taken there, and it has a time stamp on it!! And I haven't changed a bit since then, I'm sure
.
- JiveWorld 12 - Evidence of FB & Check-in activity in 2012. No such evidence in 2013. I took a year off apparently. I have evidence of there being two years between my Fat Tire and my Chicken & Waffles:
- JiveWorld 14 - I know I was there in 14 because I gave a WOL related presentation with Dennis Pearce and John Stepper, and there was a big JW14 on the title slide.
- JiveWorld 16 - I know I was there last year, my memory isn't that bad in my old age. And some recent FB memories reminded me of some of the shenanigans. Including a slow motion video, with me spinning with a hat on.
- JiveWorld 17 - All registered and ready to go!
What I'm looking forward to...is of course seeing friends in person that I only get to see every 1-2 years. But also learning from others during and between the sessions to steal some brilliant ideas and examples of how I can continue to impact our culture and productivity here at home. The attendees at JiveWorld are always on the front lines of fighting the good fight to encourage open knowledge sharing and forward-thinking behaviors within the corporate world. And I always leave with a ton of new ideas and refreshed energy.
And I'll be there Sunday night. Arriving around 4pm Sunday! Unfortunately I'm going to miss the closing night party. I have to cut out early to chaperone a school camping trip on Thursday & Friday that week. But I'll soak in as much fun & knowledge as I can.
Thanks!

Working Out Loud - WEDNESDAY, OCT 22ND 3:45 PM – 4:45 PM
(unless that was your evil twin speaking -- I can never tell you two apart)
And to all you young community managers -- my links above illustrate why you should never, EVER delete ANYTHING from your community, no matter how long ago it happened. Someday you too will be old like me (Bryce is still a kid), and you will find that increasingly all your memories are stored somewhere other than your brain.

This will be my 7th, and cannot believe how much it's changed in scope and scale from my first two (2010, 2011) in San Fran - but kept the spirit and substance.
What am I most looking forward to?
- Reconnecting with customers and, increasingly, getting to know the people Claire Fletcher and I work with virtually via Jive Adoption Resource Center and the weekly calls and webinars.
- I think my single favorite thing is having a chance to be there as many of you go from that first "deer in headlights" or "trying to figure out what we're doing" year to taking the stage and sharing your expertise, successes, lessons learned. So inspiring!
- And then of course a little "shenanigans" - rhymes with Flanagan(s)

Patty McEnaney Mar 30, 2017 11:41 AM (in response to cflanagan17)1 person found this helpfulThis will be my third JiveWorld:
October 2014 -- right after our community launched (deer in the headlights for sure). I had dinner with Keeley Sorokti whom I had met previously. I stalked her in the JC (before it was called JiveWorks) because I could tell she knew so much and she was located in Chicago, so I thought we should meet. I made sure to go to BootCamp where I learned so much and met the amazing Libby Taylor. Also met Dennis Pearce who didn't know that he was my secret guru from the community. I made sure I followed everything he said (and still do.) Also met Christina Zurkawicz and Ted Hopton -- my future active Chicago User Group members with Keeley. Also was embraced by the Fidelity team Jeff Glasson Noel White and Kirsten Laaspere (now at Akamai) who were so kind and let me hang with them, as I only knew Keeley, and not that well! And, I went running (mistake) with Matt Laurenceau and John Reynolds who stayed with me as I lagged behind. Also met Tracy Maurer at that running group, looking like she was ready to kick some running butt!
March 2016 -- felt like I knew enough to absorb more information. Brought my colleague Abu Thomas who came from India. We sat at the pool in our business casual clothes on Sunday afternoon for an hour and it felt so scandalous. I was bound and determined to do something other than JiveWorld activities, even if it was only for an hour!!! I ordered an $18 margarita (that I paid for myself, as I would never expense that) and it came in a plastic cup! We took our shoes off, but still kept our socks on, because, after all, we are colleagues. Saw a lot of bling at the pool, but it was not from us!
Really looking forward to seeing some of my favorite Jivers, who contribute selflessly in the JC, Claire Flanagan Ryan Rutan Claire Fletcher. Hoping to see Frank Pathyil Shaun Slattery and meet Sarah O'Meara and, of course, give the lovely Libby a hug! Will also have our new community manager, Bekie Hogsed, who officially starts working for me on 4/3, and Abu Thomas is coming again from India. See you all on the dance floor.

cflanagan17 Mar 30, 2017 11:49 AM (in response to Patty McEnaney)I'm tearing up with all these stories and connections! And that's what I love most about our Jive customers - they do embrace new friends or new-to-this-journey members. I've seen the most generous sharing and helpful advice from so many. It's why I'm a Jiver now - there's a passion in this community - and a commitment to help others succeed - that is so rare!
So glad you're returning Patty McEnaney. Next year I promise I will break you down and get you to speak in my track

Hey Patty, I can promise you will like meeting Sarah O'Meara. I got to meet her last weekend and had a great time talking with her. Just to illustrate the kind of person she is, she took the red-eye all the way from the West Coast to Kentucky just to have a drink with me. Oh, there was something about her fiance's family living here, but I'm sure that was just an excuse.

This will be my fifth JiveWorld, my fourth as a Jiver, and I'm looking forward to meeting so many of our fabulous customers in person. Patty it will be great to see you again and not only on the end of a phone! I also can't wait to see if Edward Ford will be leading the style pack with excellent footwear again this year.

- JiveWorld09 - The very first one in San Fran - I miss San Fran, I have to be honest. Dianne presented for element14 at that very first one. I can't remember who all I met at that one it's been so long.
- JiveWorld10 - Also San Fran. Looks like Dianne presented again.
- JiveWorld11 - First year in Vegas if I remember correctly. Dianne was up again.
- JiveWorld12 - My first year speaking - fitting as it was in the Development track (and it was the first year we had the Development track thanks to Ryan Rutan), also element14 received one of the Jive Awards that year as well for engaging customers
- JiveWorld13 - is the ONLY year I missed (had to cancel at the last minute due to emergency back surgery, ruptured discs are no fun)
- JiveWorld14 - Speaker on Claire Flanagan's track (Advanced Community Engagement) about going global and multi-lingual communities
- JiveWorld16 - Claire is right...I WAS at 16 (duh) there wasn't one in 15.
The Developer section was the most useful to me in 16 and some of the Technical Implementation and mobile sessions were also really great. It was one of the only years I was there solo from Premier Farnell.
- JiveWorld 17 - I'm most looking forward to hanging out with my fellow Chicago User Group buddies Keeley Sorokti, Ted Hopton, Patty McEnaney, Tracy Maurer and co, seeing the other Champions that I don't see anywhere else like Jessica Maxson, and especially seeing the Jivers that I work with (sometimes almost daily) like Emily Harsh and Ketu Shah and a whole host of others if they are there (sadly quite a few names that I know won't be there because the Jive cast of characters has changed a lot in the last couple years).
In the early years, I got a lot out of the sessions and looked forward to learning about what was coming in the product and had a lot of questions that I hoped to find other customers or Jivers to help answer. Now, as one of the more "mature" communities - and one that is pushing the boundaries of what Jive can do sometimes (perhaps off a cliff...let's hear it for the on-prem, customized communities!)
I come with fewer questions that others can answer for me, but still make valuable connections with other customers that have similar "issues" to mine. Whether that is how to get the data you want/need for REAL analytics, or to find the few, the proud, the remaining on-prem customers for venting/sanity checks when Jive tells me I'm the ONLY one left
, there are a million reasons to go to JiveWorld. I can't wait!

1 person found this helpfulYou're right, Claire Flanagan! '15 was the year of no JW...so this will be lucky #7...in Vegas no less.
It would be #8 if I hadn't missed one other year due to injury and ruined my perfect record.

AlanZ Apr 6, 2017 12:28 PM (in response to cflanagan17)I attended Jiveworld in 2011, 2012, and 2013... as the administrator of the EMC Community Network.
There were travel restrictions in the company, so I was not able to attend in more recent years, much to my dismay.
Now that I am no longer with Dell EMC, I will be attending JiveWorld17 on my own... trying to figure out what I want to be if/when I grow up.
I am looking forward to meeting old and new friends.

JiveWorlds I've attended
This will be my 4th JiveWorld -- I wouldn't miss it. It is the only place where I can talk about what I do without explaining it for 30 minutes first and still get puzzled looks.
JiveWorld13 - One of the few Jive-n customers on cloud (had recently launched Northwestern University MSLOC Program's learning community) and new to community profession. Kristen Corpolongo and Lauren Klein graciously introduced me to many fabulous customers and Jivers. I ran into a college friend Roger Lee unexpectedely and we had a blast at the final night party. I bonded with many of the other higher education customers -- Barbara Giannini & Brian Gnatt from University of Maryland University College; Erin Connors from Penn Foster; and Dana Grennier of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. I was hooked!
JiveWorld14 - Formed the Chicago User Group holocracy with Ted Hoptonand Christina Zurkawicz. Met Rachel Happe which led me to become a Community Roundtable member. Had a blast showing Patty McEnaney the ropes. Made it my mission to find other learning and development geeks -- hosted an informal Learning and Development breakfast where I met Andy Wooler, Dennis Pearce, Stan Jeffress, Christopher Gilland and others.
JiveWorld16 - Met my future boss, Eliza Mixon, at Bootcamp. The Learning meetup was so packed that we knew we had to expand in some way next time. Shout out to Amy Castillo of Trinity Health who organized it!
and now . . .
JiveWorld17 - Proudly representing Commvault. Presenting in the Why Jive and Learning and Development tracks! Helping out with Bootcamp.
What am I most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to the JiveWorld17: Learning and Development Track -- kudos to Jive for listening to our small but mighty Learning and Development group and adding this new track. I remember being surprised at my first JiveWorld that L&D, Organizational Design/Behavior, Knowledge Management and Change Managment were not a big focus of the conference. I look forward to deepening the conversation about using Jive to help create learning organizations. Keep an eye on the #jivelearning hashtag.
I am also thrilled that so many of my Commvault colleagues will be at JiveWorld -- looking forward to hearing Bill Wohl, our Chief Communications Officer, on mainstage sharing out social business story! I keep pinching myself that Tracy Maurer and I are working together and that we get to attend JiveWorld as work colleagues. It is the first time attending JiveWorld for blamb, Mary Garwood, Ed Mauss, James Visher and April King -- we will have a blast.
And of course looking forward to reconnecting with so many warm, helpful, and creative people. I'll see you on the dance floor Hillary Boucher! I have found my tribe and it just keeps growing each time I go to JiveWorld.

Let's make it our goal to get at least 5 Jivers to become MS in Learning and Organizational Change students this year. I think all community managers and strategists would love it! I use MSLOC skills every day in my job. Can't imagine doing this work without it. Plus you can live anywhere and be in the program! But the real bonus is that you get to learn in a Jive community so you have a leg up already. cc Jeff Merrell

And even the skills you already have and use, it is so helpful to understand that there is research to back up what you are doing! I LOVE MSLOC!!

Over the past few years, I have loved watching you attack and revel in new challenges. Thanks to your persistence, there IS a L&D track. So inspiring!

and now . . .
8. JiveWorld17 - still working at Akamai and LOVING IT
I'm a Community Manager that flies low under the radar. I'm not shy. When I get to Vegas I rage the entire week and then come home and pass-out for a week. I have 2 kids, so this is my "let loose" time. I love shows!... but of the umpteen times I've been to Vegas, I've never seen one -- even though I had tickets.
I'll be flying in on Friday, the 28th, so I can get the rage out and then focus on the conference. If anyone is coming in early and looking to hang out with a Vegas veteran and her crew, PM me and I can let you know where we'll be! I plan on doing a full tour of the strip (and definitely a stop downtown to see the Fremont Street Experience), a drink in every place.
If you see me, say HELLO. I really need to meet more Jivers!

1 person found this helpfulHi all!
Claire Flanagan, you and I are in the same very small club of people who have been to every JiveWorld. It's an event I look forward to and enjoy every year, although I am so over Vegas...
I'm looking forward to seeing all the people I've gotten to know in this industry over so many years, as well as meeting in person for the first time people I've gotten to know here in JiveWorks. From a learning standpoint, I'm looking for people to inspire me: compelling stories that motivate me to try new things or re-consider trying some old things.
See everybody soon!
