You may want to try re-writing the code to see if there is something wrong with that JS wrapper...see the POST example here:
If this issue continues, I would file a support ticket and have support grab a stack trace from your instance to attach. You code looks pretty straight forward, assuming all IDs are valid, etc...

I'm working on a similar project and got the same issue (Error 500 "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset"), and after thousands of tests in my tile, I've switched to postman for test, and why I got is very strange.
on a http://jivedemo-xxxx.jiveon.com instance (partner instance), I got this return
"message": "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset"
But if I switch to another cloud instance, I got a "201 Created".
Why I have this difference ? Does I need to request something on jivedemo-xxx instance to have it working ?
