Unfortunately yes. It happens when you Edit --> Save Draft --> Edit --> Publish.
It appears to be happening with published blogs in addition to those saved as draft... New --> Publish --> Edit --> Publish
Has this also been your experience?
It doesn't happen for me if I Edit --> Update. It only happens if I save it as a draft between the editing and updating.
What Dori describes is expected behavior. If it's happening every time you Edit > Publish (without the saving as a draft step), the original publish date should stay the same.
Hi Colin McLeod unfortunately I discovered this is how it works.
We were getting lots of complaints and bugs reported. It took a while for us to understand that a series of unexpected behaviours were all linked to the same thing - and being reported as bugs by our users.
I tested it all out and here's what I discovered when editing already published blogs.
Green = expected behaviour
Orange = unexpected or inconsistent behaviour
Although Jive/Aurea say this is intended behaviour, I find it very strange that it should be "designed" to be inconsistent. We are currently working out how to deal with this. And think we will have to do a significant effort to re-educate user, especially those people publishing Group and local news.
Scenario 1: Edit blog and publish (without saving as draft in between)
USER X updates a blog post on date 2 originally published by USER Y on date 1
Author on blog post: No change regardless of who updates the blog - USER Y
Publication date on blog post: No change. Original publication date remains date 1Notification of update: None
Scenario 2: Edit blog and save as draft. Come back later and publish.
USER X edits a blog post originally published by USER Y on date 1. Blog is saved as draft
The blog post is now unpublished - not visible to users.
USER X edits and publishes the bog post on date 2
1a. Author on blog post: Original USER Y
1b. & Publication date on blog post: Date changes to date 2
2. Notification in inbox: Notification=New Author = USER X - Preview= Original Author =USER Y
3. Notification email: I'm not sure (I think it is like inbox, notification from new Author USER X)
4. Notification in standard streams: Author = Original USER Y
5. Notification in NEWS stream: Author = new USER X
#5 has been an open bug FOREVER. It prevents us from making changes to posts as admins when the original poster is unable to.
