Re: Events Calendar and Jive?
mdcrocker Sep 14, 2011 2:39 PM (in response to dsacks)Hi,
We are using Trumba with the additional security so that the events do not leak out. We drop the Spud code into an HTML widget.

dsacks Sep 15, 2011 6:59 AM (in response to mdcrocker)Hi Mike: Thanks for your reply. We will look into that.Thank you so much. For some reason, creating an event calendar has been a huge challenge for us, but we strongly feel that once we have one, it will increase employee engagement and participation in events. Hopefully we will find a solution soon.

Re: Events Calendar and Jive?
dsacks Feb 2, 2012 7:23 AM (in response to dsacks)Hi: I just wanted to update this post. We are now looking at the Jive Events Calendar plug-in which has been updated since we last tested it over a year ago. (We were testing Google Calendar but it didn't pass our internal security/business requirements).
We haven't done a full requirements gathering or analysis of the Jive Calendar, just saw a quick demo, but it looks like it might meet our calendaring needs. I suggest checking it out if you're looking for calendaring options. Debbie

Re: Events Calendar and Jive?
dsacks Feb 29, 2012 12:05 PM (in response to ebschade)Hi Eberhard:
I can't seem to find the brochure from Jive describing the plug-in. You should ask your sales rep for a demo. You can see it in action here:https://community.emc.com/index.jspa under
Under Upcoming Events in the right column
Here's a top-level view:
https://community.emc.com/community/connect/documentum?view=event
Also, Jive has put in some additional work into improving the plug-in so what you see on the EMC site is a bit different than how it actually works today. For example, on the calendar view, it says the event name, rather than "1 event" or "2 events". They've done other stuff as well, but not sure what else. We're waiting to demo it in our UAT environment here.

laurabecraft Mar 1, 2012 6:59 AM (in response to dsacks)Debbie,
Definitely appreciated - we are in the process of implementing Jive - so this is something to consider. What version of Jive are you using for your site?

dsacks Mar 1, 2012 7:03 AM (in response to laurabecraft)Hi Laura:
We are on v5.0.1. I believe, but I could be wrong, that the event calendar might be bundled in with a future Jive release.Glad I can help!

Re: Events Calendar and Jive?
DavidPlavin Mar 2, 2012 2:17 PM (in response to dsacks)I have looked at the calendar widget as well but find it disturbing that they would charge so much for it. I have used Jotlet, but Jive purchased them and I have discovered that it is being deprecated in Jive 5 so it won't work with the next release of Jive. I am now looking at Trumba as an alternative. Jive should include the calendar as standard.

Brad.Fitzgerald Mar 14, 2012 11:27 AM (in response to DavidPlavin)Totally agree. They have it in projects, but why can it be a content type in all containers?

This is addressed in these two similar ideas: Calendar available to all containers, not just projects, Calendar Widget. Looking like due to other priorities, this isn't happening until most likely sometime next year (in terms of core product).

Re: Events Calendar and Jive?
Andrew Kratz Mar 1, 2012 7:21 AM (in response to dsacks)The plug-in is certainly a great way to go (especially if Jive is addressing the "event 1, event 2" implementation). But if you are short on cash or need to do something for an internal client RIGHT NOW, another quick option is to use the "view a document" widget. You can have your event coordinator maintain a Jive document with a simple list of upcoming events. They can format it as simply or as snazzy as they like. The view a document widget will display the content of that document on the group/space landing page.
Although you could also do this with an HTML widget or "formatted text" widget, using the "view a document" widget allows the group/space admin to do a one time set-up of the landing page (add the widget). Then the event coordinator can make updates to the doc as they wish and not have to worry about customizing the landing page and possibly doing some damage to the rest of the page. Clean, simple, safe and fully customizable in terms of what you show with the event (date, desc, etc..)...oh and fun...I think you have to add that when you say "simple and safe".
hope that helps,
Andrew
