Should User Group Meetings Include Virtual Attendees?

Let's face it.  We are all busy, and while we all see the value in attending a user group meeting, we may not have the time to travel to the meeting site.  There are numerous advantages in attending a user group in person:

  • Richer and better experience.  More easy to engage in the discussion.
  • Can network before and after the meeting.
  • You are physically and mentally present.  Whether you are presenting a topic or listening, physical presence means that you are engaged.

In the spirit of boosting attendance and increasing overall value of the user group, do you feel that user groups should have a virtual component?
