    Managing Security

    gjagai

I am curious how others have delegated or not delegated security rights/permissions to the Jive administration page. What can IT do? What can the enterprise community manager do? Do you use custom security groups to help with security administration? Do you give space adminstration rights to community leads?

      Thanks

      Gian...

Gian - what version of Jive are you on?

              We are using 4.0.8.

We just upgraded from 3.08 to 4.5.4 last Monday.  The permission structures are very different in this release and we are currently working on establishing an overall structure that makes the most sense to our organization.  In a nutshell, we have one individual in IT that have full right to manage configuration changes to the system.  We then have two individuals (myself and one other individual) that have access to admin console allowing us to manage spaces, user accounts and user groups.

In terms of custom levels - when we upgraded to 4.5.4, we "inherited" 20 custom levels due to how our permission were set-up in the older version.  We have reviewed these custom levels and have decided to simplify and create our our "custom" levels that will more closely align to our needs.  We will reach out to each of our community managers and determine which level best fits there needs.

Hope this helps a bit.  As stated, we are in beginning steps of restructuring permissions but believe we are on the right path.

Great question. We are launching on 4.5.5 on Monday. Very excited. We have a sysadmin who currently will have full control - as will our ECM. We're working with each of our business units on a governance plan for them, so we can give space administration rights to a group within each business. The way I see it, it will be IT in each of our businesses that have control, and they'll work with each of their business groups on requirements for their architecture and sub-spaces. We'll administer a set of spaces from corporate, and it'll be the ECM and sysadmin (along with a few product owners). It's early in the game, and that is what we're thinking....hope that helps.

Our system and support engineers have full sys admin rights, the rest of our team responsible for Jive implementation and adoption has space admin rights, and each business unit that owns a space has a space administrator who also has access to the console.
