    Is this a bug in profile configuration -  quite funny...

       

      Create a custom user profile text field and uncheck the editable check box in front of that. Now try to register you will see this custom option that you just unchecked from profile configuration is not visible anymore. If I understand it correctly the purpose of editable is that the field would not be editable by the user after he enters it for first time while registering on the site and it just show up in his profile for good. ON some sites there are certain things that dont really change once user puts it like Date of birth or SSN etc.. Did I understand the purpose of editable correctly???

       

       

      In any case the field does not make sense since it disappears the field once un checked. It is doing the work of delete button..

          Non-editable fields are actually meant to be filled out by something / someone other than the user. For example, an internal instance of Clearspace might show who someone's boss is or what their pay level is.  The values for these fields would be set by an administrator and would not be editable by the user.
