Hi James, great question. When you start any Jive for Teams trial, it defaults to only allow other users to register if their email domain matches yours. It's your choice if you then want to allow additional domains and what they will be.
This is very easy to add as well. Simply navigate to the admin console (found on the drop down menu next to your username in the upper right hand corner).
Once in the admin, click on "People" -> "Settings" -> "Registration Settings". Part way down the page you'll see an open box with you current email domain in it and you can simply add a comma after this and start adding more.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks, Billy. I've just realised that by default, self-registered users are created with a username that is the same as their email address. But as an admin I can create a user out-of-domain in the console. However, if I try to update their profile via the console, the domain restrictions won't allow a change (although the user can edit their own profile, with the exception of changing their email address and username). Just something to be aware of I suppose if people are inviting people into Jive from different domains, but don't want unrestricted sign ups or others from the other user's domain. Probably the main tip if you add users manually is to make their username the same as their email address, to avoid any confusion on the login page.
I've created a 30 day trial account and as part of that I created my own main login and also a test user, with a different email domain.
The login form says login with "Email Address", however that doesn't work for the test user. But when I login with their username it works (I get "Invalid username or password. Please try again.").
However, I can login with my official account using my email address.
I was just wondering:
- Is Jive for Teams only supposed to be for people on the same email domain? If not, can it be configured to be strictly limited to your own domain if required?
- Is this just a mistake on the login form, that it should be login with email address or username?
Product looks great otherwise.
