I've directed this question to one of our developer experts to see if they can shed some light on how to do this.

The action link that you are adding in this way, should point to a Struts Action defined in your struts.xml - so this requires a server-side flow
The struts action should be mapped to an action class that invokes the server-side logic and returns one or many results
The result of the defined Struts action should point to the ftl that you want rendered, and the ftl itself can then invoke the lightbox_me as it is rendered.
Does that make sense?
So inside my ftl, that the action calls, onload using jquery, would i call on lightbox there?
The way i got around it, was without an action as such, but with jquery, binding the click of the link id and opening up the lightbox that way. In another instance, where i required input from an action, i used ajax to call on the action and return the ftl, which i then display as a lightbox.. This is going to happen a number of places, so it would be ideal to understand the optimal way to do this.
