The "URL"-type is rendered as a text field, but it is different from a plain text field because of its validation rules. A "URL"-type field must be a valid URL where a text field can be anything.
The default behavior of the application is to always escape HTML for user entered content, including their profile fields. This is less of a concern in an internal environment, so we will discuss the possibility of allowing URL profile fields to be rendered as a clickable link.
