LDAP authentication with SSL in Clearspace 1.4

I have setup a new installation of Clearspace 1.4 using LDAP users. My LDAP server requires SSL for binding, but Clearspace is having some problems with that. When I try to log in with an LDAP user and password, the login fails and I see the following in the info log:

      2007.08.17 20:28:04 User:snb was not authenticated because of exception: javax.naming.CommunicationException: ldap.whatever:636 Root exception is java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jivesoftware.util.SimpleSSLSocketFactory

It looks like this is a known problem and has been fixed according to http://www.jivesoftware.com/issues/browse/CS-1569. My question is whether there is any kind of work-around for this problem, or is it possible to get a hold of Clearspace 1.5 or some other version where this has been fixed?
