What is the default for Bunchball notifications?

I see in the documentation that

By default (unless you've disabled callbacks), information about completing missions and leveling up will be delivered to the Inbox of the user who gained the level, and will also be shown under Social News in activity streams for other users.

This did not happen when our Advanced Gamification module was enabled. Is it truly the default or does Jive Support need to be reminded to do something to make this happen?
