Best method of creating a stand-alone page

I have a few items of content that work best as stand-alone web pages, where we don't necessarily want people to comment or engage socially. One example is a web form that queries one of our membership databases and provides our employees with pertinent member data. How have people created stand-alone pages where you're able to stop some HTML code in? Do I just create a sub-space, set it to "Overview Page" and just put an HTML widget as the whole body of the page? If so, can I get rid of the "Content" "People" "SubSpaces" links in the secondary nav bar? Any help for best practices would be welcomed. Thanks!
