places endpoint pagination - issue with next link

I ran into an issue where i'm following the "next" to paginate thru the entire data set of places using a restful api client. I've confirmed the issue using curl at the command line:

      curl -A "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2311.135 Safari/537.36" -H "Accept: application/json" "https://community.xxx.com/api/core/v3/places?sort=titleAsc&fields=%40all&count=100"

      Next link is: https://community.xxx.com/api/core/v3/places?sort=titleAsc&fields=%40all&count=100&startIndex=100

      curl -A "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2311.135 Safari/537.36" -H "Accept: application/json" "https://community.xxx.com/api/core/v3/places?sort=titleAsc&fields=%40all&count=100&startIndex=100"

The json response has no "next" link.

But if I submit the URI's via Chrome, I can follow the next links for at least a dozen pages. I've even tried adding a user agent into the curl queries with no luck.

Any idea what is going on here?
