My prayer is that Jive does full HTML 5. HTML5 was approved last year by the W3C, and many companies have upgraded to browsers that support full implementation just as we are now.
I'd love to see Jive move away from Flash as well. Hopefully they are working on a plan…
Thanks for raising this concern and I can see that others in the community are concerned as well. Jive recognizes the urgency and importance of moving away from a Flash dependency, so our Product and Engineering teams have discussed this and are working to have this on our roadmap in the future. In the meantime, however, temporary blockages like what was reported in the media recently for Firefox are aimed to mitigate risks around critical security issues and should not have long term impact, once the security updates have been supplied by Adobe, e.g. Flash is back on Firefox after bug fix - Jul. 16, 2015.
For your reference, Flash is used in the following components of Jive:
- video upload/creation and playback
- document conversion and preview
- copy and paste functionalities in the rich text editor in certain older browsers (utilizing ZeroClipboard v2.x)
I would encourage voicing your concerns by posting a feature improvement idea in the Ideas for Jive space to help capture any additional sentiment for our Product team, as this is our official feedback channel.
Let me know if you have any other questions on this as well.
Do you have any update on this topic or when will Jive start supporting HTML 5 for video ?
