How do you set request timeout header in osapi?

I have a custom tile UI where I show the links of the attachments present on the end system. When user clicks on it the attachment will start downloading. The problem that I have been facing is of request timeout between my UI and backend service. The rest call that I make from backend service to the end system successfully returns the data for the attachments but in the meanwhile the UI request times out.

I am using osapi.http.post to make a call to my backend service in tile and which inturn makes the actual attachment rest call to the end system.

Is there a way to tackle this request timeout problem.?
