These may help too:
I had the same issue you are experiencing with users not wanting to participate due to the clutter, but as I mentioned on this reply, I ended up breaking the "helpful" template which effectively caused the emails to stop sending. The notifications still show in Jive inboxes and other streams, but at least the emails don't go out anymore. Not a great answer, but I hope it helps!
Did you find a solution for this yet? If so, would you mind letting the community know what you did to resolve?
