You must likely need to specify the contentID of the file you want to to update.
For example, once you've created the file the 1st time....you should get a "resources" block back, for example, this is the API URI for this discussion:

This is the end-point that you need to use to update a specific file in Jive, such as
If you PUT/POST to /contents ... there is no way Jive can properly determine which contentID you want to update. As such, it tries to create a new file each time, and hence your name conflict issue.
