We are not on cloud, but I thought I would chime in. My company's best practice is to have the admins include the name(s) of the individual(s) they support in their biography. That way when someone searches for the boss, Sam Smith (from your example above) will also shows up.
You can create custom profile fields of different data types, and add them to the user profile page.
These can be setup to be searchable as well, so you could either create a field specifically for a URL, or as a text box that contains a name.
