Have you checked out Scott's recent blog, Letter to Jive Customers: A Look Back and What's Ahead? It gives a good review of 2017 and what to expect in 2018.
As for place simplification, that is definitely on the roadmap, but we are unable to speak to the timing just yet. I would recommend moving forward with the current structure, since it could take significant time before we see the place simplification. We will be doing everything we can to make the transition painless for customers using groups and spaces (which is almost everyone!).

Looking forward to hear more about the simplification plans as soon they are more concrete. And we are happy to think with you. By working with groups, we collect a lot of ideas and questions on how to improve the customer experience.
