Issue in creating document with rest API

    kikumar@mdsol.com

      Hi,

I have to convert some HTML pages to jive documents, using nodeJS. Most of the documents created successfully but one document could not be created, even after spending hours, I could not find the reason why other document created successfully but not this one. It will be really helpful if someone here can help

      Here is the document json:

                  john_reynolds

                  Hi Kishor,

Thanks for sending. I did spend some time with this, and although I don't have an exact answer, I have some suggestions for debugging.

For testing, I highly suggest using Postman | API Development Environment  and there's a good how-to in this document - How to: The Basics of using Jive's REST API

Once you install Postman, remember to set all the necessary parameters

                  • use POST and use the /contents service on your community URL
                  • set the username and password in Authorization
                  • set the payload to "Raw" and "application/json"

I see that you're trying to migrate content from Atlassian Confluence and the use of third-party HTML is always a struggle as far as creating content in Jive, which has its own HTML requirements.

When you do tests, you will get results like in this example you see there is a "400 bad request" and you can trace it to "character 2253" which usually means there is a missing double-quote or a line break, or something that is breaking the JSON.  I would suggest the following in your source:

                  • Ensure all of your single quotes are escaped with \'  (and note, you are already doing this)
                  • Ensure all of your standaline ampersands are replaced with &amp;
                  • Check that all of your double-quotes match. For example, at the very end of your JSON above, see that there is a missing double-quote and a missing closing </h1> tag

                  >Full Newsletter</a></h5>

                  • Replace all line breaks (\n) with whitespace or just remove them

Using POSTMAN will at least give you better ability to troubleshoot, as yes ... the garbled error above cannot be understood.

                  Good luck!
