Macro Problems Your Organization is Solving with Collaboration

One of the challenges our team encounters when we are pitching the use of social networking tools to enhance informal collaboration, and frankly any time we discuss collaboration in general, we always bump up against the "what problem are we trying to solve" issue.  There isn't anyone who doesn't think better collaboration is a good thing but in order to make it meaningful beyond a concept we need to focus it on business problems.  I know there is a good list posted in another discussion thread regarding specific ways to apply social networking to point problems but what I'm trying to get a better handle on are the macro problems in order to frame within our organization's context.

      Here are a few examples:

      - Who knows who

      - Who knows what

      - Communities of Practice

      - Communities of Interest

What other ones do you use?
