Server Questions for Ryan (and Texas User Group)

    CoraRodenbusch

Hi Ryan (and Texas User Group),

Greetings from the Frost Bank building - We expect to have your admin plug in on our dev server next week! Very exciting stuff.

We have three questions for you or for anyone who has info on the following:

      1. We've had a few server configuration meetings this week and thought we could learn from how you have your server system set up. Right now we're on one server, but our Net Ops team has asked us to think about what we want. We've seen Jive's 4.5 server config recommendation, but would like to hear how you have your internal community set up.
      2. Are you using the Jotlet plug in? We were before we upgraded to 4.5.1, but had problems with it in 4.5.1 and 4.5.3. Have you seen any issue w/ Jotlet in your communities?
      3. Also we experienced issues with outgoing email notifications affecting incoming emails (i.e.respond to discussion via email). Have you experienced any problems with email notifications?

Jive is aware of #2 and #3, but was just curious if you had seen any issue.

      Thanks,

      Cora

Server configurations are really something that are hard to compare without context regarding load, users, and scale.

          That being said:

We purchased our hardware under the 4.0 architecture scheme, which put us into a bit of a twist with our 4.5.x upgrade; however, on our current installation...which works for approximately 3k users...~200 simultaneous with Document Previews enabled.  One server handles the sbs app, cache, joosd, jdcd services....the other does the same (minus the cache).   We have 2 servers primarily for us desire for redundancy....not for load demand.  Our goal moving forward will be to separate the service concerns such that cache/joosd/jdcd are all separated from the application server.  Possibly a single machine virtualized for the different instances for the various services.  Also, it goes without saying that we have a separate DB Server.

            1. We are running Jotlet on 4.5.0 externally...but have not had any official reports.  Could you explain what you are seeing?
          2. Also we experienced issues with outgoing email notifications affecting incoming emails (i.e.respond to discussion via email). Have you experienced any problems with email notifications?

The only email issue I saw was the 4.0.x flavor that had the JMS Queue blocking and starving out events.  Once again, could you share details on this issue?  Perhaps our mail configuration is keeping us from seeing the obvious issues?

          Hope this helps,RR
